If you have thoughts that prevent your happiness or limit you (don’t we all!!!) then The Work is an excellent thing to look into.

I’ve been hearing about it for months in the Personal Development and Law of Attraction communities, but haven’t spent any time understanding it until recently.

Here’s a short intro video (3:30) on The Work – enjoy!

(See the video on youtube.)

When asked today what I’d really love to talk about, I realized that I’ve really been delving deeply into the Art of Allowing.

Weather that’s Sedona, feeling your emotions, or Mindfulness from John Kabat-Zinn, or the complete acceptance process from Chris Payne, it’s all about not fighting against reality which makes everything much better. Buddhism calls it “the end of suffering”.

“When I argue with reality, I lose—but only 100% of the time.”  - Katie Byron

Here’s a 7 minute audio clip (mp3) about it – enjoy! (you can right click and choose “save as”)

I read a very cool article by psychologist Richard Wiseman about being a lucky person.
He ran a bunch of experiments, surveys, all that cool stuff.
His end result? Basically… Law of attraction – who would have guessed?!

He says that luck comes from believing that you are lucky, being in touch with your emotions, having a positive outlook, and knowing that everything that happens is for the best.

He mentions he ran a “Luck School” to help people be more lucky.
In that light, I’m thrilled to offer a 2 free week course by email on those factors.
It’s loads of fun, and I’m looking forward to seeing you there!

There’s a little more info here if you want.

You may have already begun to realize that you get what you expect you will get – and you continue to keep expecting what you’ve been expecting. So can you change what you expect?

[Hearing this one a few days later, I was a little iffy about uploading this one - I would explain it a little different - but I figured you would still like to hear it.] (2:13 video)

What do you think?

I don’t know why exactly it took so long for it to click… all of LoA, alignment, beliefs, etc is about this:
1) Your non-conscious controls 90%+ of your actions. You can’t do much. So stop trying to use willpower and force actions, you can just relax. Just get out of the way. Allow yourself to enjoy and feel good.
2) But I want stuff! What do I do? Tell your subconscious what you want. Reprogram the auto-pilot to your liking. Visualize, use a pray-rain journal, afformations, etc.
3) Allow yourself to feel your emotions and clean them up. You can do that just by facing and feeling them instead of the usual running away. Melting old beliefs helps, too.
(Rinse and repeat.)

I was stuck on step 1 – I was trying to keep and follow a to do-list, and have really well defined goals – all of them. Silly me! I mostly neglected step 2, or when I was doing it, I was trying too hard to make sure I did it right. I didn’t let go and get out of the way.

Step 3 I’ve been getting much better at. I really love using Sedona for that.

What’s your story?

Do you recall the last time you had a good laugh? A funny joke, a good time out with friends, a hilarious ad, or perhaps watching a comedy?

… or maybe, you watched a really funny video of someone on the metro spreading his laughter:

… or even, you saw a monk demonstrating laughter yoga that cracked you up:

If you just watched those videos – or recall that time you were really laughing – I’m sure it was a pretty good vibe. You momentarily dropped trying to accomplish, your doubts, your current worries (which may be flooding back in at the mention of them!) and just relaxed in the moment. I’m sure you know how helpful it is to just feel good.

I save cute videos from youtube (and my favorite movies) and often in the morning pick out a few of them (e.g. “Who’s on first” in kinetic typography is a riot!) and just enjoy!

The next time you see something cute, or just because you feel like it, take a moment and laugh a little. If you’re feeling really good, do it out loud in a public place – just hold on for a minute or two, and I’m sure you’ll have people joining you!

What do you feel?

Abraham used to call his seminars “The Science of Deliberate Creation” but stopped because people seemed to be taking it too seriously and getting all caught up on it.

Instead, Abraham now talks about the “Art of Allowing” – allowing what’s good to come to you, rather than needing to deliberately create it. I have a feeling that they changed “science” to “art” also to make it seem more intuitive, rather than a specific, methodical process. Science needs to be painstakingly methodical, art flows naturally.

In most places that I see however, I hear talk about the Science of Deliberate Creation. Scripting, Pray Rain Journals, visualizations, etc. I’ve done these, but the artificialness of the techniques usually wanes on me. To stop and pursue the new feeling often feels like a chore, too. I seem to be in the minority – many love it their deliberate creation time – but I seem to quickly lose the inspiration of the new vision, and just want to move on, usually long before it’s manifested.

Regardless, Abraham seemed to mean this: stop focusing so much on the creation, and just allow. He says “nothing is more important than that you feel good” because feeling good itself – being in alignment  – is its own manifestation technique.

Motivations aside, I’m really not sure WHAT I want to create. Having analyzed my motivations at a deeper source, and rediscovering my religious roots, I’m very much up in the air at the present moment. I’m still exploring and letting it settle.

There are many other complementary techniques that seem to completely or mostly focus on the Art of Allowing – e.g. Sedona, Release Technique, Ho’oponopono/Zero Limits (“Ice Blue!”), The Work, Power of Now/Tolle, Jamie Smart’s The Art Of Being, Effort Free Life System by Chris Payne.

So I’m curious – is anyone else focus mostly on Being and allowing? Do you have recommendations for moderately active communities (not so large you lose the personal connection), or even chat rooms to hang out in?
